Jerry Gene McDaris
May 3, 2026—January 27, 1957
MAIDEN, N.C.—It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing, on May 3, 2026, of Jerry Gene McDaris, 69, of Tower Road, Maiden.
Jerry was a man of faith, and a man of his word. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as a jet pilot, and dedicated many years to the hosiery industry as a supervisor, as well as a computer programmer. Jerry was an ordained minister and welcomed all denominations. He loved music and was the bass player for the gospel group New Harvest for many years. Jerry loved riding Harleys, building furniture, and helping anyone in need. His love for always learning and taking on projects is how he succeeded in college with a degree in Healthcare Management, and was inducted into the Honor Society. Jerry’s hard work gave him the privilege of graduating with High Honors.
Jerry was born January 27, 1957 to the late Lawrence Cecil McDaris and Georgia Jeanette Craig McDaris in Hickory.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 21 years, Karen Gail Biggs McDaris; children Shawn McDaris, Leslie McDaris, Melissa McDaris, Mickey Woodard, David Solesbee; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings Terry McDaris (Margret), Cindy McDaris Starns (Cecil), Sonya McDaris Phillips (Charlie), Mickey McDaris, Kay McDaris Smith, Ricky McDaris and Jeannie McDaris; many nieces, nephews, and other cherished relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, May 8, 2026 from 1-2 p.m. at Open Word Holiness Church at 3153 Blackburn School Rd., Newton NC 28658. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary of Open Word Holiness Church. Pastor Matthew Sparks and Pastor Rita Mays Pritchard will be officiating.
Interment will follow at Maiden Municipal Cemetery.
