Martha Riley Rogers & John Thomas Rogers Jr.
October 5, 1941 - March 16, 2023; April 23, 1944 - March 11, 2023

Martha Riley Rogers
October 5, 1941 – March 16, 2023

NEWTON, N.C. - Martha Riley Rogers, 81, of Newton, passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

She was born October 5, 1941 in Durham County to the late Phares Benford Riley and Grace Harding Pritchard. Martha was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover and retired from AT&T as a customer service representative. She had a wicked sense of humor and had a style of her own. Martha was a woman who loved her family fiercely. She was a beloved grandmother to Aiden, Luke, Maggie, and Zachary and will be greatly missed.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, John Thomas Rogers Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters Clelia Ross and husband Dean Ross Jr. of Fort Drum, N.Y., Karen Harman and husband Darrell of Hickory; grandchildren Maggie Harman, Luke Harman, Aiden Ross, and Zachary Ross; and son Michael “Mike” Thomas Rogers and wife Betsey of Kannapolis.

A service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held on Sunday, March 19, 2023 at 3 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover. Rev. Tim Jernigan and Rev. Dr. Ed Yount will officiate. A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 1 p.m. at Gardens of Faith Cemetery, 5190 N Fayetteville Rd., Lumberton, NC 28362. The family will receive friends prior to service from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church on Sunday, March 19, 2023.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Catawba County, PO Box 63, Hickory, NC 28603

John Thomas Rogers Jr.
April 23, 1944 – March 11, 2023

NEWTON, N.C. - John Thomas Rogers Jr., 78, of Newton passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2023 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

He was born April 23, 1944 in Robeson County to the late John Thomas “J.T.” Rogers Sr. and Vera Clelia Baxley Rogers. John was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Conover and retired from Averitt Express in Newton. He loved life and enjoyed working at Rock Barn Golf, spending his days talking with people. John never met a stranger and had a gift for making everyone he met feel welcome. He loved his Woodlawn Baptist Church family and was in attendance most every Sunday. John was truly an amazing man who will be missed by many.

Those left to cherish his memory are is his wife of 51 years Martha Riley Rogers of the home; son Michael “Mike” Thomas Rogers and wife Betsey of Kannapolis; daughters Clelia Ross and husband Dean Ross Jr. of Fort Drum, N.Y., Karen Harman and husband Darrell of Hickory; grandchildren Maggie Harman, Luke Harman, Aiden Ross, Zachary Ross, Brandon Benton, Reagan Karasak, Gage Rogers, Skylar Rowan, Wylder Rowan, Nicholas Rogers, Jase Cope, Remington Cope, Keaton Cope, and Emily Cope.
