DALLAS, N.C. - Mrs. Carrie Lee Rohm Cloninger, age 86, formerly of Dallas, died on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at Terra Bella Senior Living of Shelby.
A funeral service to celebrate Carrie’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, March 24, 2023, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Dallas with Rev. Dr. John Spencer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12-12:45 p.m. prior to the service.
She was born on July 28, 1936, in Gaston County, a daughter of the late Benjamin Palmer Rohm and Lila Mae Dellinger Rohm. Carrie graduated from Lowell High School in 1954, and continued her education by completing correspondence studies in secretarial science. She served as an administrative assistant at Lowell High School, Lowell ; Ace Elevator Company, Charlotte; Piedmont Mills, Gastonia; Recreation and Public Works Departments, City of Gastonia; and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Dallas. When her son was a young child, Carrie established a bookkeeping and income tax preparation business at her home. She was known for the precise and conscientious manner in which she continued to manage her corporate and individual clients’ accounts for nearly 50 years. Carrie was a long-term member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, and attended worship services faithfully until her health declined. She enjoyed reading and visiting the North Carolina mountains with family and friends in her leisure time.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Marion Arnold Cloninger, whom she married on July 5, 1955; one sister, Hazel Rohm Morris; and one brother, James Milton “Jimmy” Rohm.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Kenneth and Gloria Cloninger; two granddaughters, Dr. Erin Cloninger Najarian and her husband Edward; and Lauren Cloninger Timmerman and her husband, Dr. Jacob; two great-grandsons, Caen and Gaven Najarian; sister, Ann Rohm Morrow; sister-in-law, Frances Rohm; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 531 Hardin Road, Dallas, NC 28034, or to the Alzheimer’s Association, Western Carolina Chapter, 4600 Park Road, Suite 250, Charlotte, NC 28209.
