BASEBALL

TUESDAY March 21st
West Lincoln 15, West Caldwell 0

  • It was a no-hitter, but only a five inning game because of the one-sided score. The Rebels scored three runs in the first inning, seven in the second, three in the third and two in the fourth. We'd love to give credit to the pitcher and those who scored the runs or drove them in--but we got no report on the game from anyone at West Lincoln, so congrats to the 'anonymous' Rebels. The win gives West a 4-5 mark, 3-2 in the Catawba Valley Conference.

East Burke 8, Lincolnton 7

  • Will Blackburn started for the Wolves and went three-and-a-third innings, allowing 6 hits and 5 ER. Garett Hedgepeth pitched two and two-thirds innings in relief allowing 3 hits and 2 ER. Jacob Driggers had 3 hits and scored 3 runs, Caden Smith and Cole Kiser had 2 hits and 2 rbi's each and Smith scored a run and had a stolen base; Karson Cloninger had a double and Garett Hedgepeth scored 2 runs and had a hit and Davian Johnson also had a hit.

North Lincoln 3, North Iredell 1
  • The Knights improved to 5-3, 2-1 in the Western Foothills Conference. No details of the individual stats were provided.

East Lincoln 10, West Iredell 0

  • Hunter Henson (4 innings) and Kaden Scott (2 innings) combined for a four-hit shutout. Nate Borchardt hit 2 for 4 including a double and drove in four runs. Even Matile had two rbi's. The Mustangs are now 4-2, 1-1 in conference play.

Lincoln Charter 12, Bradford Prep 2

  • The Eagles won their fourth game of the season (now 4-2 overall, 2-0 in the Catawba Shores Conference). The game was shortened to four-and-a-half innings because of the score. Donovan Davis had a homer accounting for four rbi's; Matt Cipriano and Evan Myers also hit home runs and each had two rbi's. Brady Swadley batted 3 for 3, inlcuding a double and a homer and two rbi's. Jacob Smith hit 2 for 3, both doubles. Smith got the win on the mound, striking out 5 of the 14 batters he faced in two-and-a-third innings. Cipriano struck out six in two-and-two-thirds innings.

Maiden 11, Bunker Hill 1

  • The Blue Devils are now 4-4 overall, 4-1 in the Catawba Valley Conference. No individual stats for Maiden were provided.

Bandys @ Newton-Conover

  • Cade Spencer struck out 14 in the five-inning shutout, didn't walk any batter and allowed only a single. Alex Robinson hit a single, a triple and a homerun in three at-bats, driving in five runs. Dominic Robinson also hit a triple and Colby Edwards and Scotty Miley each had a double. The Trojans are now 2-6 overall, 2-3 in the league.

Cherryville 16, Thomas Jefferson 4

  • The five-inning game was no contest, but the Gryphons extended it a bit getting two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. For the ironmen, Landon Hahn had three rbi's and Collin Robinson 2. Cherryville is now 6-2, 3-0 in the Southern Piedmont Conference.

Lincoln Charter 17, Lake Norman Charter 6

  • The game was called after four-and-a-half innings with LCS ahead by more than 10 runs. Evan Myers had a home run and a double; Nate Rollins batted 3 for 4 including a double.

Bandys 11, Pine Lake Prep 1

  • Sophomore Drake Tucker got the win, striking out 5 batters in four innings. Alex Robinson hit a triple and had four rbi's.

  • The Mustangs won their fifth without a loss; they're now 2-0 in the WFAC. Jaelyn Freeston and Lauren Borchardt each hit a home run and Madison Currence hit a grand slam. Currence's blast and a double accounted for five of the rbi's; Betsy Eatmon batted 4 for 5 including a double and drove in 3 runs. Aubrey Gust hit two doubles in three at-bats, driving in a run. Freeston was 2 for 4 and had 3 rbi's. Emery Pethel was 3 for 4, had a double and drove in two runs.

  • Hailey Fiora had a home run; Biley Polaski and Kayla Okoniewski each had two doubles.

Maiden 19, Bunker Hill 0

  • The Blue Devils are now 7-1, 5-0 in the Catawba Valley league. This game was called after Maiden took a 19-0 lead in the third inning. Aleah Ikard and Macy Michael each had a home run; Averie Waddell had two doubles. The game was called when the Eagles took the lead 18-3 in the bottom of the third inning.

  • Riley Vogel was 3 for 3, all triples, as the Tigers scored 11 runs inb thei bottom of the first inning. When they added four more in the second, the game was called. Alexis Stuebe, Karsyn Sigmon, Sarah Leonhardt, and Alyssa Smith also had triples for Foard, now 5-1, 3-0 in the WFAC.

  • CHS is now 7-1, 3-0 in the Southern Piedmont Conference.

BOYS GOLF

On Tuesday afternoon, Westport Golf Club hosted a Western Foothills golf match involving all of the teams in the conference. Fred T. Foard was the winning team, followed closely by East Lincoln and North Lincoln. David Gee of Fred T. Foard was the medalist with a score of 36, followed by teammate Jaydon Del Vechio- 38, and Conley Killian- 39 from North Lincoln. Team scores were Fred T. Foard-159, East Lincoln-166, North Lincoln-171, Hickory-173, North Iredell-174, West Iredell-181, St. Stephens=191, and Statesville-225. Low scorers for each team included David Gee (36) from Fred T. Foard, Trent Wharton and Will Faulkenberry (both with 40's) from East Lincoln, Conley Killian (39) from North Lincoln, Cole Boggs (40) from Hickory, Shawn Drye (41) from North Iredell, Chance Barnes (41) from West Iredell, Carter Gscheidmeier (41) from St. Stephens, and Sam Buckner (45). Competition will continue next Monday at Catawba Springs Golf Club in Hickory. The 18-hole match will begin at 2:30.
