John Hancock
It is perhaps the best known signature in American history.  As president of the Continental Congress, John Hancock is credited as the first signer of the Declaration of Independence. Lincoln Landmarks Event This Weekend
Lincoln Landmarks is presenting its inaugural “Home and Garden Weekend,” this weekend. It will be held April 28 and 29 (this Friday and Saturday), 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Organizers state that plans are afoot to make the event an annual one. It will feature historic homes and gardens of both Lincoln and Mecklenburg counties.

The Halifax Resolves
There are two dates on the North Carolina state flag and the state seal.  One of those is the date of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence.  Although widely celebrated, that declaration has become widely discredited by historians.  The other, the Halifax Resolves, is historically accurate.
