Unnecessarily Mad

2023 comes with lots of changes...
Some good and some bad...
Just like every previous year...
And every other new year...

Greed is always a factor...
Factor in most things...
Greed is a powerful enemy...
Enemy to most good...

Stores, most stores...
Stores want to make more money...
Employees cost money...
Less employees equal...
Equal more profits...

She was in a large store...
10 cash registers...
8 closed and 2 open...
6 customers waiting...
Waiting in each line...
Waiting 30 minutes or more...
Getting madder each minute...

Poor cashier is working as fast...
Fast as she can...
Now the cashier is dealing with mad...
Unnecessarily mad...
Totally unnecessarily mad customers...
Customers who stand and stare...
Stare at closed cash registers...

Companies think they can make...
Make customers use the self-check out...
They fill the stores with everything...
Everything but cashiers...

She is old enough to remember...
Remember going in large stores to shop...
Shop and see new items...
New ideas...
New trends...
Often shop for fun...

She remembers shopping without...
Without stepping over unopened boxes...
She remembers not having to find someone...
Someone to take her money...

Last week she left a store...
Left cause the cashier was no where...
No where to be found...
She looked around and there was no one...
She watched another customer...
Customer ring up her own items and leave...
So she left her items on the counter...
Got in her car and left...

They say “No one wants to work”...
She thinks no one wants to deal...
Deal with mad customers...
Customers they did not make mad...

Well people say “Change is constant”...
WELL MAYBE...
JUST MAYBE...
She will live long enough to see...
See this change...

More About Judge Rembert: WWII made Judge an only child when her half-brother was killed in the war. She lived in a tiny town in South Carolina until she was eight and her Mother went to work. She was sent to a boarding school in Belmont, N.C. From that time on she has lived back and forth in the two Carolinas. They are both home. She was born dyslexic and did not know what the problem was or that it had a name until she was about 45. She was unable to spell so she never put words on paper until she was 65 and had a computer with spell check. She comes from a long line of story tellers and a Mother that taught her much by telling stories. Stories about people and how they faced life and how they dealt with problems. If you read what she writes you may hear her Mother and her Grandmother talking to her. She is thrilled to know that anyone reads her words and finds them interesting. Oh, she is 75 now and she now makes her home in Aiken, S.C. If you like Judge’s writings or would like to comment on them let her know by emailing [email protected].
