TENNIS

The North Lincoln girls tennis team won its 10th match in a row and improved to 11-1 on the season with a 7-2 victory at East Lincoln Monday (Oct. 2nd).

Emma Carver, Natalie Gore, Rachel Fink, Freya Gustis, Ella Wulfhorst, and Mia Lang were singles winners for North; Sophie Meyers came back from a first set loss to tie Lulu King and won the tie-breaker to take East Lincoln's only singles win.  In doubles, Carver & Gore and Gustis & Wulfhorst were winners; Meyers & Amelia Barrineau won for East in doubles.

The win keeps North the only unbeaten team in Western Foothills Conference play (5-0); it was the first conference loss for East, now 5-1 in the league. North will visit Hickory Tuesday afternoon, then play at Statesville on Wednesday.

Before beating East on Monday, North Lincoln had won a match with Lincoln Charter last Thursday. Emma Carver, Freya Gustis, Penelope Joly and Ella Wulfhorst won in singles for North; for Lincoln Charter, singles winners were Emma Kennedy, Ansley Johnson, Kate Lesniak and McKEnzie Mullen.  In doubles, Emma Carver & Natalie Gore, Jessica Fedo & Tiffany Scronce, Lulu King & Rachel Fink were winners for North; for the Eagles, Kate Lesniak & Rowan Milligan and Tayor Riggenbaugh & Avery Spangler won in doubles.

While North is now 11-1 overall, Lincoln Charter is 14-1, 8-0 in the Catawba Shores Conference.  East Lincoln is now 11-4 overall.  They play at Hickory on Wednesday.

Fred T. Foard was scheduled to play at St. Stephens Monday but we didn't get a report on the score.  Foard will host North Iredell Tuesday.

Lincolnton will host Maiden Tuesday and at West Lincoln Thursday.  West will play at East Burke Tuesday. Maiden will host Newton-Conover Thursday. Bandys plays at West Caldwell Tuesday and hosts Bunker Hill Thursday.  Cherryville will play at Burns Tuesday, at Highland Tech Wednesday and at East Gaston Thursday.

West Lincoln is in first place in the Catawba Valley Conference with a 5-0 league record (8-3 overall).  Maiden and Newton-Conover are tied for second with 4-1 conference marks.  The CVAC conference tournament will be played next Tuesday (Oct. 10th) at Maiden.
