NEWTON, N.C. - Sandra “Sandy” Rector Gunter, 66, of Newton passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Catawba Valley Medical Center.

She was born October 5, 1956 in Catawba County to the late Carl and Sue Betty McCarter Rector. Sandy was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Conover and was employed as a waitress. She enjoyed coin collecting, drawing, listening to music and was an avid animal lover.

Those left to cherish her memory is her daughter Regan Huffman of Newton; brother Michael Rector and wife Carmen of Burgaw; sister Patti Weisenborn and husband Rev. Paul Weisenborn of Newton; grandchildren Tristin Elshafie and husband Justin of Strasburg, Va.; great-grandchildren Mila Elshafie and baby grandson on the way.

A memorial service to celebrate Sandy’s life will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Tommy Young will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.
