LINCOLNTON, N.C. - As the school year begins, Sheriff Bill Beam emphasizes the importance of safety and patience from the public. With increased traffic around schools, we ask everyone to exercise patience and adhere to traffic guidelines to ensure a smooth and safe start to the school year.

“Ensuring the safety of our students and staff as they return to school is our top priority. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation during this busy time.”

Safety Tips:

“Let’s start the school year safely and smoothly,” said Sheriff Beam “It’s crucial to go over these safety reminders with your children to help them avoid potential dangers.”

  • Avoid Strangers: Never engage with strangers. Report any encounters to a trusted adult.
  • Stay Together: Walk with friends to and from school.
  • Seek Help: If you feel threatened, seek help immediately from a trusted adult or law enforcement officer.
  • Use a Code Word: Establish a family code word. Don’t go with anyone who doesn’t know it.
  • Be Cautious: Don’t accept items from strangers and avoid distractions like headphones while walking.

Sheriff Beam also advises parents to review their children’s device privacy settings and discuss the risks of sharing personal information online.

SROs in Every School

We are proud to have School Resource Officers (SROs) stationed in every school across Lincoln County. These officers are dedicated to maintaining a safe school environment and are an excellent resource for students and parents. We encourage families to build a positive relationship with their SROs and to approach them with any questions or concerns.

“Your cooperation and patience are vital as we work together to ensure a safe environment for our students,” added Sheriff Beam.
