I was pleasantly surprised by this opinion piece given the previous editorials by this author. However your estimation of the poor training of ice officers, in dealing with the public, was gleaned from how many years experience in law enforcement?
Thanks so much for reading the article Randy. As a supporter of the North Carolina Sherriff’s Association who donates every year, I am a strong supporter of law enforcement. Although I have three decades of experience working in local government, you are correct, I have never been a police officer. A summer internship “way back when” with the Gaston County Police Department did provide a great insight into the workings of these heroes in blue (it was a great internship by the way). To me, however, it is about what the law says as far as law enforcement behavior that violates civil rights or uses excessive force. Furthermore, I really dislike the wearing of masks – they are law enforcement officers, not members of a Mexican drug cartel. So, again, ICE agents need to be more restrained (I think that is obvious), while civilians need to follow the instructions from ICE agents and must not physically obstruct ICE activities. Thanks again for reading the article.
You finally wrote something I can somewhat agree with. I prefer law and order as well as respect for each others rights to a peaceful existence. Every time I walk out my door into the public arena I'm hoping that will be the norm. It's not always the case in today's world. Society seems to have turned to me and now has more compassion for the criminals and has made the victims and law enforcement out to be the bad guys. That can only bring a downfall to our peaceful world (just look at the violent, "sponsored" left wing protestors in the large cities) and normal law abiding folks will be forced into the positions of protecting themselves when they don't care to have the responsibility. A truly sad state that is not the fault of us regular people and a TOTAL FAILURE OF OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS.
Thank you sir for reading. I'm sure you will find shortcomings with my opinions in the future, but for today, I'll take what I can get. :) Happy New Year to you sir. Be well.
Merry Christmas
