I applaud your comments about pride in America and all the feedback from soccer fans praising what we have in this country. I'll just add .....it's wonderful seeing all the emphasis on our 250th birthday but for many of us, it doesn't take a special celebration to realize how much pride we have in our country and how blessed we are to enjoy the freedoms we have and all the fantastic things America is know for. We can thank many brave souls from our US Military for most of that. What grinds me down and makes my blood boil is the fact this nation's news media seems to enjoy broadcasting protests by foreigners AND our own citizens that basically indicate their desire to overthrow and seemingly "end" all that has made America great. They get to do that because of our freedoms yet hypocritically demonstrate against those exact ideals that grant them the privileges they basically are abusing. I don't understand most of it but I always know there is usually some radical person or group with deep pockets full of ill spent money that are sponsoring a lot of this. It's shameful we "real" Patriots have to put up with this corrupt nonsense and we can argue about amendments but it still isn't right in my opinion.
Thank you sir - yes, we do need to thank our military (past and present) for the freedom we enjoy. And we may not have the same opinions on immigration, but as much as I support our First Amendment, I just don't agree with someone who is here on a visa or green card chanting "Death to America" - they need to be sent right back where they came from. Former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger (a Republican) was correct - immigrants in our nation are guests and must behave as such. On a lighter note - Happy July 4th to you and yours. E
Eric, I'm not against immigration and I only state it should be performed in a lawful manner. I am a strong advocate of law and order, no matter what the subject matter may be. That even applies to unwritten and non enforceable laws of human existence some of those being disrespected grossly these days. Respect for other's spaces seems to be at the top of the list lately. What happened to being courteous to people in public? Blame it on social media and these warped people making videos of how stupid they make themselves look in a public place has taken all of us down a few notches. If that is the norm and what some consider to be entertainment then we are in trouble in a big way. Borrowing your phrase of a lighter note .....our rabid sports fans you take lessons from our foreign World Cup guests as they celebrate with respect while not burning any private property. Being of Dutch and Scandinavian descent, I'm loving the "Norwegian Row" exhibits everywhere. Enjoy your 4th also!!
Yes, that "Norwegian Row" has been great - demonstrating that national pride. Thanks for your kindness sir. :)
Very well stated Eric. I totally agree with all but the covid vaccine. However one of the things that makes our country great is that we can disagree, on certain subjects, yet we can and should agree that we are citizens of the greatest country on the planet. That alone should unite us into one common society.
Thanks Randy for reading my article and Happy 4th to you and yours. :)
Totally ban the use of cell phones for ALL drivers in a moving vehicle. That will go a long way towards safer highway conditions. I also have a problem with the enforcement (by all agencies) of the headlight laws during rain periods and for that matter anytime the need arises for darker conditions. All vehicles have some type of easily used control for headlights ....USE IT FOOLS!!!!!!
Thank you sir. Now, I do admit to using my cell phone's GPS for directions, but that's the only function I use it for while operating a motor vehicle. Absolutely, cell phones are too distracting for not just texting, but using the phone function as well while driving. Good call (no pun intended). We all need to be super focused on the road. Have a great day!
I guess I'm old school ...I still use a map or a predetermined set of written directions which I will stop beside a highway to view. We own three different GPS systems, wife's phone, a old Garmin unit, and one came on my Toyota truck. I trust none of them since they have all caused me to be lost or going the wrong way at some point in using them. Ours even have the speaking voice feature which can be safer while driving but I sit behind the wheel and laugh at where it tells me to go. I just quit using any of them and always tend to rely on my aforementioned tried and true methods. I very seldom use my antique flip phone and usually tell a caller to hold the line until I pull over and stop. There's too many pathetic, dangerous drivers in this town and surrounding towns that require full defensive attention to risk being on a phone call that can wait.
I’ve lived here all my life but your husband and I would get along well. I love my windows open till the temperature hits the 90’s, longer daylight hours and the smell of fresh cut grass. I don’t like snakes, pollen or having to run the raccoons away from my porch.
Maybe they could get the homeless people to be the re-enactors, since they are taking over the library anyway! At least they’ll be there for the show.
