2024 Paul C. Rhyne Art Competition Entries Being Accepted

October 31 - November 2

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - The Paul C. Rhyne Art Competition is an annual exhibition for the ACLC, which was renamed in 2007 in honor and memory of Paul C. Rhyne, a lifelong resident of Lincolnton and supporter of the arts council. The exhibit has included dozens of entries from the region, including but not limited to Hickory, Gastonia, Mt. Holly, Denver and Lincolnton.

The public is invited to view the exhibit in the galleries of the Lincoln Cultural Center located at 403 East Main Street in Lincolnton. The exhibit will be on display November 8-30. An awards ceremony and opening show reception will be held on Thursday, November 14 at 6pm.

Eligibility: All artists 18 years and older may submit up to 3 entries for $50. Painting, drawing, sculpture, jewelry, photography, printmaking and fiber are eligible.

Presentation: All work must be properly framed or gallery wrapped with sides properly finished (no staples on sides), over an inch width, and properly wired for hanging. Mats must be neat and clean. 3D work must sit solidly on a flat surface or be properly mounted. All works should be prepared in a simple, professional manner and be ready for display. Works should not exceed 48” in any direction. 2D works on paper should be matted and wrapped or framed under glass. Large oils or acrylics on canvas do not need to be framed, but should be stapled on the back and have painted edges, no saw tooth hangers, NO WET ART. Three-dimensional works will be limited to 200 lbs. and the artist is responsible for assembling and positioning heavy or large pieces.

Specifications: It is preferred for your work to be available for sale. A commission of 10% will be retained on all sales. All works will be juried by a judge. Sold pieces will be removed at the end of the exhibit. Each artist will carry their own insurance if desired. Any artist selling a piece of their own work that needs shipped will assume that responsibility.

Liability: The ACLC will do everything possible to keep each piece safe. However, submission of an entry is at the artist’s own risk. Only a limited amount of insurance is provided. The declared value of the work must be reasonable and inline with the artist’s previous sales. It is suggested that an artist wanting more protection insure their own art (some homeowner’s policies may include protection and should be checked.)
