CHERRYVILLE, N.C. - Mrs. Barbara Ledbetter McGinnis, 88, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2024.

Barbara was born on February 29, 1936 in Cleveland County and she would tell you she was only 22 years old having a birthday every four years. She was a daughter of the late Arthur Ledbetter and Elsie Meacham Ledbetter. She was retired as a teacher assistant from Gaston County Schools and also taught in Florida, Virginia, Georgia and Tennessee. Barbara was a member of First United Methodist Church in Cherryville.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Herman "Larry" McGinnis; a daughter Kim McGinnis; and a brother, Don Ledbetter.

Survivors include a son, Tony McGinnis and wife Mary Lane of Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother-in-law Morris McGinnis and wife Jacque of Cherryville; sister-in-law, Carol Ledbetter of Blowing Rock; five grandchildren, Lindsey Cartee (Doug Hetrick), John McGinnis (Tarin), Lauren Cartee Carnes (Ben), Valerie McGinnis and Amy McGinnis; eight great-grandchildren; three nieces Sabrina McGinnis, Kendra McGinnis and Gina Ledbetter Harwood.

The family received friends from 12:45-1:45 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Cherryville.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at First United Methodist Church with Pastor Zack Christy officiating.

Burial followed the service at City Memorial Cemetery.
