Carroll Gene Heavner Sr., 95, left us peacefully on Sunday February 15, 2026, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton.  He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend.  He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother Harold, sister Julia and other family members.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, in Hollybrook Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 1:30 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home. 

Carroll was born to John Paul Heavner and Essie Leonard Heavner on October 2, 1930.  He and his twin brother grew up on a farm in Lincoln County.  Carroll attended Howard’s Creek Elementary School and Union High School.  In 1941 they became twin brothers to twin sisters, Jane and Julia Heavner.  He married the love of his life, Mary Hoffman.  They were married 70 years.

Carroll worked at Duke Power in Charlotte NC.  He later moved back to Lincoln County and worked as a mechanic at Hoyles Motor Company.  During this time he was drafted in the Army and served two years during the Korean Conflict.   After completing his service he came back to Lincolnton and begin his career with First National Bank.  He also served many years on the City Council and served as Mayor.  Carroll made a change in his career and became a Vice-President and loan officer at Lincoln Bank.  Always wanting to help people with a smile on his face.  He retired in 2001.

Carroll, Mary and family enjoyed some travel time after his retirement.  He was an avid golfer and was on the course every chance he could find.  He golfed until around the age of 91.  Loving this sport and being with his golf buddies.   Good times. 

Survivors include:  sister Jane Heavner, sons Gene Heavner, Jeff Heavner (Crystal), daughter Nancy Price (Geno), adopted daughter Karen Hyder Simmons; grandchildren Caroline Powell, Hayden Heavner (Elyse) Brandon Heavner, Hunter Reaves (Taylor). 3 great-grandchildren.
