Fatal Collision In Caldwell County
Robert Thomas Kampfer is dead
BLOWING ROCK––A fatal collision occurred Friday in Caldwell County.
According to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, at about 7:35 that evening, NCSHP personnel responded to and investigated the incident on US-321 near Rocky Knob Road.
“A 2017 Kawasaki motorcycle, travelling north on US-321, crossed the center line and struck a 2014 Mercedes-Benz SUV travelling south on US-321,” Casey states in a Saturday release.
He adds that the driver of the Kawasaki, Robert Thomas Kampfer, 64, of Boone, was ejected from the motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, Philip Stephen Amick, of Detroit, and a passenger were not injured.
“US-321 was partially closed in the area during the on-scene investigation for several hours,” Casey continues. “The initial investigation indicates careless and reckless driving to be the contributing circumstance in the collision. No charges will be filed in this case.”
This tragic accident highlights the importance of road safety and the severe consequences of careless driving. It serves as a sobering reminder for all motorists to stay vigilant and respect traffic rules to prevent such heartbreaking incidents.
