Fatal Collision: US-321 In Catawba County

NEWTON––A Maiden man is dead, following a Monday morning collision in Catawba County.
According to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in a same-day statement, at about 8:50 a.m., NCSHP personnel responded to and investigated the fatal collision on US-321 Business near Smyre Farm Road. A 2018 Nissan “Rogue,” travelling south on US-321 Business, drove off the right side of the road and collided with a tree.
Casey continues that the driver, Jimmie Earl Yancey, 83, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
“The preliminary investigation indicates speed and alcohol were not contributing factors in the collision,” Casey adds. “During the on-scene investigation, the roadway was closed in the area for approximately two hours.”
