Four-year-old girl from Catawba dies in crash in heavy rain
CLAREMONT––A Thursday morning collision proved fatal in Catawba County.
According to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, at about 8:10 a.m., NCSHP personnel responded to and investigated the incident on Boggs Road near Hunsucker Drive. During heavy rain conditions, a 2008 GMC “Acadia,” travelling west on Boggs Road, crossed the centerline and collided head-on with an eastbound 2022 GMC “Yukon.”
Casey continues that the driver of the “Acadia,” Lyndsey Nicole Gaddis, 32, of Catawba, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to an area hospital. Two child passengers were also transported to area hospitals. A 4-year-old child succumbed to her injuries. And a 12-year-old child is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
The trooper adds that the driver of the “Yukon,” Tiffany Miner Sipe, 34, of Claremont, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by EMS to an area hospital. Two child passengers were also transported to area hospitals. A 2-year-old child is hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, and a 4-year-old child received non-life-threatening injuries.
“The initial investigation indicates impairment was not a contributing factor in the collision,” Casey states. “Possible charges are pending upon completion of the ongoing investigation and consultation with the Catawba County District Attorney’s Office. Boggs Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours during the on-scene investigation.”
