Fatal Crash In Iredell County On Sunday
Anthony Drake Villeda of Hiddenite is dead at 30
STATESVILLE––A Hiddenite man died in a collision in Iredell County on Sunday.
According to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in a same-day statement, at approximately 4:10 p.m., NCSHP personnel responded to and investigated the incident on US-64 near Lippard Farm Road. A 2005 Ford “F-250,” travelling west on US-64, attempted to pass westbound vehicles in a no-passing zone and collided with an eastbound 2025 Peterbilt semi-truck without a trailer.
The driver of the Ford, Anthony Drake Villeda, 30, succumbed to his injuries at the scene. A juvenile passenger in the vehicle was not injured. The driver of the Peterbilt, Christopher Wesley Vowell, 54 and also of Hiddenite, was not injured, as Casey informs.
“The initial investigation indicates careless and reckless driving to be the contributing factor in the collision,” he adds. “During the on-scene investigation, US-64 was closed in the area for approximately two hours. No charges will be filed in this case.”
