First-Ever Senior Fest Is July 19, 1-4 P.M.

Celebrating Older Americans Month

LINCOLNTON––The Lincoln County Department of Social Services is gearing up for its Senior Fest.

As DSS spokeswoman Thelma Runyon told The Herald this week, this event is the first ever of its kind locally. It will be held at the DSS on Friday, July 19, 1-4 p.m.

“We are celebrating Older Americans Month and wanted to do an event to help our older population,” Runyon informed. “We are relying on the donations of time and materials to complete this event, as this is an event to recognize Older Americans Month and worldwide elder abuse.

“We will have approximately 20 vendors that will be setting up tables to share information with the folks that come to the event,” she continued. “We want to make our citizens aware of what services are available to them.”

Among the facets of the DSS’s multi-pronged mission is its adult services wing. Its purpose is to assist aging and disabled adults in planning for, realizing and maintaining their independence, free from abuse, neglect and exploitation.

The Lincoln County Department of Social Services is located at 1136 E. Main St. in Lincolnton. Call the DSS at (704) 732-0738 to learn more information.
