CATAWBA, N.C. - Gary (Hogg) Allen Leatherman, 68, of Catawba, passed away on Monday, July 15, 2024 at his residence.

He was born October 30, 1955 in Catawba County to the late Jack Johnny and Jessie Mae Setzer Leatherman.

Gary was a member of Smyrna Church in Catawba and retired from the trucking industry. He loved working on and fixing up old cars, enjoyed cooking breakfast at his church, and enjoyed taking care of his animals and the chicken house.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by Brian Keith Dalton Crowder, Rickey Darrell, Terry Neil, Gerald David, Steven Michael and Kenneth Edward.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 45 years Patricia Shook Leatherman of the home; son Jack Allen Leatherman of Catawba; daughter Shannon Abernethy and husband Jonathan of Catawba; brothers Johnny Wayne Leatherman and wife Elaine of Catawba, Jimmy Ray Leatherman and wife Patsy of Catawba, Larry Faye Leatherman and wife Debbie of Catawba, Bobby Eugene Leatherman of Catawba; and grandchildren Ivy Michelle Leatherman and Jacklyn SueAnn Leatherman.

A service to celebrate Gary’s life will be held on Thursday, July 18, 2024 at 4 p.m. at Smyrna Church in Catawba. Pastor Jonathan Abernethy will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2-3:45 p.m. at Smyrna Church. Those serving as pallbearers are Rayne Whisenant, Dalton Lawrence, Steve Duncan, Joel Flowers, Jack Allen Leatherman and Travis Brown. Honorary pallbearer will be Stanley Auton.
