Irene Frances Mathis Heavner
Irene Frances Mathis Heavner, 91, of Newton, passed away on Friday, January 17, 2025 at her residence.
She was born August 18, 1933 in Catawba County to the late Claude Thomas Mathis and Mary Estelle Ingle Mathis. Irene was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting, reading, completing word search books, and attending church.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Heavner; son, Jerry Heavner; twin brother, Gene Mathis; brothers, Claude Mathis, Jr. and Wilbert Mathis; and sisters, Lillie Mae Dellinger and Joyce Adams.
Those left to cherish her memory are;

Daughter: Betty Matheson of Newton
Sister: Faye Wolters of Conover
Grandchildren: Donna, David, Lisa, Kim, Sheila, Kelly, and Michelle
Great-Grandchildren: Jesse, Joshua, Kristen, Caleb, Adam, Alex, Joseph, Ashlee, and Drew
Great-Great-Grandchildren: Kayleigh, Karleigh, Makenna, Jonah, John Lee, Sylvia, Amelia, and Benjamin
A service to celebrate Irene’s life will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church in Newton. Rev. Doug Hefner will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. Those serving as pallbearers are Kelly Heavner, Jesse Whisnant, Joshua Whisnant, Alex Cruz, Adam Cruz, Dave Gauntt, Terry Icard, Caleb Heavner, and John Whisnant.
