Jack Edward Mehaffey II
July 9, 1944 – November 4, 2024
CLAREMONT, N.C. - Jack Edward Mehaffey II, 80, of Claremont passed away on Monday, November 4, 2024 at his residence.
He was born July 9, 1944 in Buncombe County to the late Jack Edward Mehaffey and Marie English Mehaffey. Jack was a member of Olivet Baptist Church in Catawba, was a veteran of the United States Navy and retired from UPS. He was in the UPS Circle of Honor and spent four years as a Navy Seal “Frogman”.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Anita Mehaffey and Jean Conley; and brother, David Kevin Mehaffey.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 32 years Madeline Reavis Mehaffey of the home; sons Jack “Chip” Mehaffey and wife Barbara of Rutherfordton, Michael Darren Mehaffey of Rutherfordton, Zachary James Smith and wife Krystle of Union Grove; sister Sandra Mehaffey Currie and husband Ernie of Denver; grandchildren River Smith, Brant Smith, Bodie Smith, Ridge Smith and Timber Smith; support dog Rosie Lou Mehaffey; and caregivers Lakea Sifford, Taylor Carlton, Nancy Cable and Beulah Morefield.
A memorial service with military honors to celebrate Jack’s life will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at 3 p.m. at Olivet Baptist Church in Catawba. Rev. Matt Rummage will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at Olivet Baptist Church.
