CHERRYVILLE, N.C. - Mr. Joe Talmadge Millwood, 77, passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024 at The Greens at Gastonia.

Joe was born on February 14, 1947 in Cherokee County, S.C. a son of the late Arthur Millwood and Margie Blackwood Millwood. He was a retired examiner for the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles. Joe served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam and received a Bronze Star for his service. He was a member of Cherryville American Legion Post 100 and also attended meetings of the VFW in Lincolnton.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Will Millwood.

Survivors include his daughter, Greta Millwood of Cherryville; two brothers, Don Millwood and wife Anita of Cherryville; Jan Millwood and wife Lynne of High Shoals. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 1:45 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

A celebration of life service was held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. G. Scott Homesley officiating.

A private burial was held at City Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Cherryville American Legion Post 100 Honor Guard.
