John Morris Powell
January 23, 1950 – September 7, 2024
HICKORY, N.C. - John Morris Powell, 74, of Hickory passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Carolina Caring.
He was born January 23, 1950 in Caldwell County to the late George Morris Powell and Louis Faye Prestwood Powell. John attended First Advent Christian Church in Hickory and was a United States Army veteran. He retired from the United States Postal Service as Postmaster in Hiddenite.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Billie Jean Williams, Gail Powell Blevins, Georgia Ann Powell, and Donna Faye Rich.
Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 53 years Brenda Lambertina DeHaas Powell of the home; sons Ronald George Powell and wife Elizabeth of Hickory, Christopher John Powell and wife Lisa of Hickory; daughter Melanie Powell Shook and husband Luke of Granite Falls; grandchildren Taylor, Carter, Caden, Chloe, Bryson, and Colton.
A memorial service with military honors to celebrate John’s life will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Tommy Young will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at Bennett Funeral Service.
