Bessemer City - Kenneth Dean Moffitt Jr., 63, passed away on March 15, 2025 at CaroMont Regional Medical Center in Gastonia.

Kenneth was born on August 29, 1961 in Gaston County to the late K. Dean Moffitt, Sr. and Betty Costner Moffitt. He was a 1979 graduate of Bessemer City High School. He retired from Timken in Iron Station after 40 years of service. Kenneth was a lifelong and faithful member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church in Bessemer City. He believed that his faith in God was best shown through his actions, and he showed compassion and God’s love, daily, to those he encountered. Previously he served as the church Youth Director, for many years, providing a positive Christian role model and always continually supporting all of the students. He loved to teach, go to camp, and participate in all of the youth activities. Through the years, He also served as chairman of the deacons, a leader in college ministry, in the children’s department, Sunday School teacher, and anywhere else he was needed.

Kenneth never meant a stranger and was a beloved figure in the community. He loved all things sports, as a player, coach, and spectator. He played in many leagues and tournaments through the years, and was a beloved coach, who impacted many kids in the community, both in Tryon Optimist and in Bessemer City. He was an avid sports fan. He loved the Charlotte Hornets, NC State Wolfpack, and Bessemer City High school.

Kenneth was a loving father who always supported his family in everything. He loved his family, his friends, helping others, and always a good meal. He lived his life to the fullest, never letting anything get him down, always having fun, and enjoyed teasing with others. He saw the good in people and encouraged people to see the good in themselves. Kenneth was loved by His Savior, and he simply just loved…. that is what he did.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Micah and Megan Moffitt; Micah’s mother, Benita Sipes Moffitt; his granddaughter, and the apple of his eye, Esther Moffitt, and grandson, Elijah Dean, who is expected to arrive in July; sister and brother-in-law, Robin and Dana Bryant and nephew Dustin Bryant. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Osborne and Shirley Moffitt and Craft and Jennie Howell.

The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to 2:45pm, Saturday, March 22nd, at Mt Beulah Baptist Church, in Bessemer City. A service to celebrate Kenneth’s life will follow at 3pm with Rev. Robert Austin and Rev. Fain Farmer officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials may be made to South Mountain Baptist Camp 3558 Baptist Camp Rd, Connelly Springs, NC  28612, BCHS Sport Boosters or the organization of the donor’s choice. To continue Kenneth’s legacy, show compassion and acts of kindness to those around you.
