LINCOLNTON––The Lincoln Herald’s own Kirk Herbertson attended President Donald Trump’s rally on Wednesday.

The big event was held at the old Charlotte Coliseum and attracted thousands of people in a massive, sold-out show of support. And Herbertson was there, one of many photographers covering the rally. A longtime photojournalist for The Herald, the Lincolnton-based Herbertson is well known for his work. He has photographed and covered countless local events, large and small, over the past 12 years.

Despite the high heat, the turn-out was amazing. Herbertson’s pictures revealed no vacant seats at all in the standing-room-only arena, with even more Trump supporters thronging outside.

“The sweat was worth it!” Herbertson cheerily observed, regarding covering the event.

President Donald Trump is seen here during Wednesday’s campaign rally. The big event attracted thousands of supporters to the old Charlotte Coliseum.

This was Trump’s first official campaign stop since a would-be assassin, the late Thomas Crooks, 20, tried to shoot the President at an outdoor rally in Butler, Pa., held on Saturday, July 13. Trump was wounded in the right ear but was otherwise OK, and the Secret Service summarily shot Crooks to death.

Wednesday’s event also marked the first such occasion for Trump since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democrat Party’s presumptive nominee in a contest that is shaping up to be a re-match of 2016, when Trump trounced former first lady Hillary Clinton.

According to the National Archives and Records Administration, Trump handily won North Carolina in the 2020 election. This year, Trump is the heavily odds-on state and national favorite once again, and most election observers expect him to easily take the Old North State’s 15 electoral votes once more, Nov. 5.
