LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Larry Cyril Carpenter Sr., age 84, of Lincolnton was called home on Sunday, August 11, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at home.  Larry had fought a long battle with dementia.

His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, in the Warlick Funeral Home Chapel with Todd Doolittle and Phil Goins officiating.  Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. at Warlick Funeral Home.

Larry was born March 11, 1940, in Mecklenburg County.  He is the son of the late Katie Artilla Queen.  In addition to his mother, he is preceded in death by his son, Tony Everett Carpenter, and son-in-law, Edmund Tadych.

Larry was employed by Freightliner of Gastonia and retired in 2003.  After retirement, he continued his love for welding in a shop in his backyard.  He was one of the Hilltop Boys who never met a stranger.  His family will always remember him as a fun, loving, and caring husband, father, and grandfather.  He also had a competitive spirit, whether it was putt-putt, card games, or board games he was not going down without a fight, even if it was against a grandchild.  Larry was a passionate Tar Heels fan, which sometimes resulted in him screaming at the TV and slamming his hat.  He was a child of God and his family has found peace in knowing he is in the arms of Jesus.

Survivors include his wife, Geraldine Carpenter of 64 years; four children, Pamela Tadych, Tammy Huffman (Luther), Larry Carpenter Jr. (Amanda), Regina Scronce (Mike); 13 grandchildren Erin Sikes, Tony Carpenter Jr., Cory Carpenter, Mandy Auten, Megan Tadych, Austin Lowery, Elliott Tadych, Maddison Hallman, Robbie Kate Carpenter, twins Kennedy and Keegan Carpenter, Heather Huffman, and Brandon Huffman; 10 great-grandchildren Aiden Peeler, Alyssa Arthurs, Alex Cruz, Ashton Sikes, Elisa Carpenter, Addie Carpenter, Aiden Tadych, Scout Lowery, Bella Huffman, and Ethan Nieto; one great-great-grandchild, Lorenzo Peeler; two sisters, Barbara Hallman (Troy) of Hickory and Judy Weinberg (Mark) of Banning, Calif.; as well as numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

His family would like to extend gratitude to VIA Health Partners of Lincoln County, and a special thank you to his first nurse, Rhonda Lovelace who would sing with him at each visit, Jeannie Putnam, the nurse who spent his last months with him, and in-home caregivers, Allison Neal, Vicky Smith, and Lisa Phipps.  We love you the most!
