SHERRILLS FORD, N.C. - Laura Sophie Szymczyk Lewis, 87, of Sherrills Ford passed away on Saturday, September 28, 2024 at Wexford House Assisted Living in Denver.

She was born as Leokadia Zosia Szymczyk on January 27, 1937 in Kurpiewskie, Poland to the late Adam and Helena Gąska Szymczyk. Laura was a member of Westport Baptist Church in Denver and enjoyed cooking and gardening.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Karzimierz “Chuck” Szymczyk.

Those left to cherish her memory is her husband of 66 years William H. Lewis of the home; son Mark W. Lewis and wife Laurie of Claremont; brother Tadeusz “Ted” Szymczyk and wife Nancy of Maiden; sister-in-law Donna Szymczyk of Raleigh; nephews Jeff Szymczyk and wife Katie of Raleigh, Eric Szymczyk and wife Kirsten of Raleigh; great-nephews Hunter and Raylan Szymczyk; great-nieces Riley and Ashley Szymczyk; grandchildren Lindsay A. Lewis and Jeremy W. Lewis; and a host of cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate Laura’s life will be held at a later date.
