Margaret Layne Dixon
Margaret Layne Dixon, 90, of Newton, passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at her residence.
She was born September 21, 1934 in Caswell County to the late Jake and Elsie Witherspoon Layne. Margaret was a member of First United Methodist Church in Newton where she served as the music director. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Meredith College in 1956; Advanced Study degree from the Duke University School of Education in 1962; and certification in English Education from NC State University in 1963. Margaret taught at Newton Conover High School for 15 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Debbie Dixon Cloninger
Those left to cherish her memory are;
Husband of 69 years: Thomas “Tom” A. Dixon of the home
Grandchildren: Liz Howell (Nick), and Jason Cloninger
Great-Granddaughter: Loralei Howell
A memorial service to celebrate Margaret’s life will be held on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Newton. Rev. Josh Sherfey will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:30 to 3:45 p.m. in the parlor at First United Methodist Church.
