Mary Elizabeth Hoffman Heavner
Mary Elizabeth Hoffman Heavner, 89, left us peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Her sense of humor made life joyful.
Mary was born in Lincoln County to the late William R. and Inez Crowell Hoffman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Laura Smith, and brothers Joe Hoffman and William “Bill” Hoffman. She graduated from Lincolnton High School and also graduated from the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. She was employed by the Duplin Corporation in 1952 and worked as a lawyer assistant at Wilson & Wilson Law Firm in Lincolnton.
Survivors include her husband, Carroll Gene Heavner of 70 years; sons, Gene Heavner, Jeff Heavner (Crystal); daughter, Nancy Price (Geno); her adopted daughter/friend, Karen Hyder Simmons; grandchildren, Caroline Powell, Hayden Heavner (Elyse), Brandon Heavner, and Hunter Reaves (Taylor); and two great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the supporting caregivers at Abernethy Laurels.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in Hollybrook Cemetery with Rev. Sarah Underwood officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Warlick Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to First United Methodist Church, 201 E. Main Street, Lincolnton, NC 28092.
