Myrtle Smith Newton
June 25, 1948 - September 9, 2024
LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Myrtle Smith Newton, age 76, of Long Shoals Road in Lincolnton, died on Monday, September 9, 2024.
Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024, at Emanuel Reformed Church with Rev. Brent Price and Rev. Michael Baldonado officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:45 until 2:45 p.m. on Friday at the church.
Myrtle was born June 25, 1948, in Catawba County, to the late Dorothy Smith Hefner. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Clyde Hefner; daughter, Donna Woodliff; brother, Tom Smith; and sister, Sue Crouse. She worked for Timken for 25 years as a computer analyst.
She is survived by her husband, Howard “Gene” Newton of the home; son, Brian Hawkins; stepson, Brian Newton; stepdaughter, Buffy Lucas; sister, Libby Shook and husband Greg; grandchildren, Cohen Woodliff, Jed Woodliff; step-grandchildren, Madison Newton, Taylor Cruz, Sarah Lucas, Sidney Lucas, and Adoria Newton; and three great-grandchildren, Eva Cruz, Axel Cruz, and Mario Renteria.
