Nancy Ellen Bates Matthews
Nancy Ellen Bates Matthews, age 75, of Cherryville, passed away January 28, 2025, at Atrium Health Cleveland. She was born January 29, 1950, in Forsyth County, to the late Tom and Belle Dougherty Bates.
Nancy was a member of Mt. Carmel Methodist Church in Winston-Salem. She adored horses and was an avid reader. Nancy also loved going to the beach. However, she rarely wanted to venture out onto the beach and would rather sit on the front porch and listen to the waves. Nancy worked for Krispy Kreme Donuts for more than 35 years. Actively involved in the buying of products, she was dedicated for many years before retiring. Nancy loved spending time with her grandchildren more than anything else. She was not only “Nana” to them, but “Nana” to everyone. Nancy was a godly woman, a hard worker, and a loving Nana.
In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Edwards.
Survivors include her daughter, Nikki Davis (Craig); sister, Joanne Lawson; grandchildren, Justin Davis (Shannon), Taylor Davis, Josh Cockerham (Miranda), and Cheyenne Teague; great-grandchildren, Jaden Davis, Skyler Davis, Hadley Cockerham, Rylen Cockerham, and Everleigh Turner; and niece, Jennifer Bowen (Kelly).
In accordance with Nancy’s wishes, no formal services will be held.
