National Night Out Is This Tuesday

Big event for Lincolnton Police Dept., departments nationwide

LINCOLNTON––The local observance of the National Night Out will be held this Tuesday evening.

According to a Friday statement from the Lincolnton Police Department, the event’s festivities will be observed Aug. 6, 6-9 p.m., in various downtown Lincolnton neighborhoods.

Our own Lincoln Herald photographer, Kirk Herbertson, will be on hand to take pictures and capture the many happy moments shared between citizens and members of local law-enforcement agencies.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, the National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police and community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make America’s neighborhoods safer and more caring places in which to live. Co-ordinated with the National Crime Prevention Council, the National Night Out brings police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

It's all a very beneficial thing. The efforts are intended to help fight crime, to prevent the use of illegal drugs and other such measures facilitating the public good and general safety.

Locally, multiple National Night Out block parties are hosted by block captains in various Lincolnton neighborhoods on the first Tuesday of August on an annual basis. Representatives of the Lincolnton Police Department and the Lincolnton City Council say that they look forward to seeing their neighbors at each block party, and they hope to attend every one of them.
