DALLAS––In recent years, the historic Dallas Jail has been turned into quite the showplace.

The jail was built in 1848, back when Dallas was the county seat of Gaston County, then newly carved out of Lincoln County. It’s located at 108 E. Trade St. in downtown Dallas.

And according to Jack Kessler of Preservation North Carolina, the old jail has been given a new life, and it’s now an ideal venue for many special events. One of them is coming up this Saturday, Nov. 9, 1:30-4:30 p.m. It’s a celebration of the jail’s preservation and the related efforts of buyers Blair and Victoria Propert. Tickets are $35 each. This includes a one-year membership in Preservation North Carolina. Light refreshments will be served at the event.

Kessler added that preservation covenants will ensure that the jail remains as it is. Henceforth, it will be protected as an integral part of Dallas’s downtown square.

Preservation North Carolina is the state’s only private, statewide organization dedicated to historic preservation. It locates historic properties and then matches them with buyers who are able to renovate them. The organization has thus far acquired almost 900 such properties and generated about a half-billion dollars in investment.
