GASTONIA––It’s a somber day of hushed remembrance.

Gaston County Police Department Chief Stephen Zill is this day (Sept. 11) contemplating what happened 23 years ago.

“Today,” said Zill, “brings about heavy hearts for many of us as we reflect on the devastating events that unfolded on Sept. 11, 2001. It is a day etched in our collective memory, reminding us of both the immense loss but also the incredible bravery displayed by fellow Americans and first-responders.

“Let us take a moment to remember and honor the precious lives that were tragically cut short,” he continued. “We extend our deepest sympathies to their families and loved ones. We also pay tribute to the courageous men and women who selflessly rushed into danger, risking their own lives to save others.”

This day, the Chief observed, serves as a powerful reminder of the strength and unity that emerged from the ashes in New York City and at the Pentagon.

“During a time when we faced such unimaginable tragedy, we also found hope and resilience,” he said. “It reminds us of the sacrifices made to protect our freedom and ensure our safety.

“Again,” Zill added, “let us take a moment to reflect on the profound impact of this tragedy and to honor the memories of those we lost. May we also find solace in the unity that united us during those dark days. May we never forget!”
