Ricky Thomas Hensley
May 27, 1958 - November 2, 2024
LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Ricky Thomas Hensley, age 66, of Lincolnton passed away Saturday, November 2, 2024.
Mr. Hensley was born May 27, 1958, and was the son of the late Rebecca (Smith) and Jack Hensley. He was also proceeded in death by his siblings, Chad Hensley, Gail Hensley, William Hensley, and Janice Womble. Mr. Hensley retired from Lincolnton Police Department and was a veteran of the United States Navy.
His funeral service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at Bethel Baptist Church with Rev. Keith Hollar officiating. His body laid-in-state from 12 p.m. until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Burial followed at David Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years Cynthia Sue Hensley and is a proud father to his three children: Amber George (Ryan), Derrick Hensley (Audrey), and Melissa Leonard (Jerry); and two brothers Randy Hensley and Darrell Hensley. He was blessed with seven grandchildren Blake, Harrison, Addison, Georgina, Marina, Rebecca, and Brooke who brought him immense joy and fulfillment.
Ricky was a man of great faith, dedication, and service. He passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community. Known for his unwavering commitment to duty, Ricky dedicated his life to serving others in a variety of roles, including police officer, school resource officer, and pastor, attending seminary at Fruitland Baptist Bible College.
Ricky’s journey of service began in the Navy, where he developed a lifelong sense of duty and resilience. After his naval career, he continued to protect and serve as a police officer, taking on role of a school resource officer to make a positive impact on young lives. His devotion to guiding others extended beyond his role as a pastor, where he shared his deep faith and compassion with everyone who sought his counsel. He was also a skilled pilot, carpenter, mechanic, and a dedicated supervisor at Freightliner. He always embodied strength, leadership, and kindness in every role he took on.
He will be deeply missed, but lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all those he inspired throughout his life. He has now entered into the arms of his lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Memorials will be made to Bethel Baptist Youth Building Fund, 200 Bethel Church Rd., Lincolnton, NC 28092.
