DENVER, N.C. - The Eastern Lincoln Historical Society will host authors Ashley Oliphant and Beth Yarbrough who spent two-years researching evidence that the mysterious Frenchman calling himself Lorenzo Ferrer, who arrived in Lincolnton in the year 1839, was actually the Infamous Gulf Coast pirate, Jean Laffite.

Oliphant and Yarborough concluded that Jean came here to escape all lingering traces of his early life as a pirate and live out the rest of his days in peaceful anonymity.

“He almost got away with it, too” explains Oliphant, “except for two unlikely pirate hunters in the 21st century who figured him out.”

The authors will discuss their book Jean Laffite Revealed: Unraveling One of America’s Longest Running Mysteries, and offer an answer to questions surrounding the end of this pirate’s life.

This program is free to the public and light refreshments will be served. Please join them at the Mundy House Annex on Monday, October 14 at 6 p.m. at 4339 Business Highway 16 North in Denver, N.C.
