“Unseen And Overlooked” Exhibition Soon

Scheduled to run Sept. 7-Oct. 28 in downtown Shelby

SHELBY––The Cleveland County Arts Council has a major exhibition coming up very soon.

It’s the “Unseen and Overlooked” exhibition, and it’s slated to run from Sept. 7 through Oct. 8 in the arts council’s galleries at 111 S. Washington St. in downtown Shelby. The opening reception is scheduled for Saturday evening, Sept. 7, 5-7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

Also included at the reception will be readings of poetry by three published poetesses native to North Carolina. They are Pat Seel, Nancy Womack and Dr. Kathy Ackerman.

According to the Cleveland County Arts Council, this new exhibition will feature both macro and aerial photographic works. Macro photography is the art of taking pictures of incredibly tiny objects from an extremely close-up perspective. It is much different from regular close-up pictures, because the subject in the photograph has to appear larger than life. The aim is to highlight details that would be invisible to the naked eye.

Aerial photography is of course more self-explanatory. It involves the taking of photographs from an elevated or direct-down position. Platforms for aerial photography include but are not limited to fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, balloons, blimps and dirigibles, rockets, kites, parachutes; cameras used while skydiving; telescoping poles or masts; or other aerial or elevated support systems.

Sales of said works, which are suitable for the general viewing of people of all ages, are encouraged. If sold, the Cleveland County Arts Council will retain a commission of 30 percent.

Awards are $100 gift certificates for Jerry’s Artarama for first place in both categories.
