CONOVER, N.C. - William “Bill” Richard McLaine, 76, of Conover passed away on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory.

He was born November 19, 1947 in Raleigh County, W.Va. to the late William R. McLaine and Christine Elsie McLaine. Bill was a member of Open Door Baptist Church in Conover and was a truck driver for Premium Fabricators. He loved truck driving, his church and NASCAR racing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Terry McLaine; and sisters, Pauline Wade and Janet Lee.

Those left to cherish his memory is his wife of 49 years Cathy Honaker McLaine of the home; sons James Honaker of Conover, William Scott McLaine of Hickory, Bill Conor of  Barberton, Ohio, John Conor of Barberton, Ohio; brother Jerry McLaine; and sisters Linda Ullman, Robin Portor.

A service to celebrate Bill’s life will be held on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Bennett Funeral Service, 7878 NC Hwy 16, Newton. Rev. Darrell Williams will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2-2:45 p.m.
