Wood Carvers Club Meeting Nov. 16

HICKORY, N.C. - The Catawba Valley Wood Carvers Club’s meeting will be Saturday November 16 from 1-3 p.m., at the Klingspor Woodworking Shop at 856 21st Dr SE (Sweetwater Rd) Hickory.
Prior to the Club meeting, the Board of Directors and any interested members will meet at Noon to review the recently completed 21st ANNUAL Woodcarving Show and Competition.
For November’s project, project is a pine cone design by Bob Kozakiewicz from the WCI issue No. 93. You will need a knife and a “v-tool”. This is a great project to practice your techniques.
Members are also reminded that there are two upcoming opportunities to show and sell wood carvings. The Murray’s Mill Folk Festival has been rescheduled to the Very Murray Christmas Festival, on November 30, 2024. Carvers will need to bring their own pop ups, tables and chairs and goods to sell WHILE they carve. Carvers should contact Jennifer Marquardt at 828-241-4299 between 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. to reserve a spot.
The. Hickory Christmas Show. is looking for volunteers/carvers on Saturday and Sunday that will want to work in "Santa's Workshop" either day. Saturday, December 7, 2024, 9 a.m. - 8 p.m. and on Sunday, December 8, 2024, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Hickory Metro Convention Center.
The club officers’ elections will be at the November 16 meeting. The new officers will make committee chair selections at the January 18, 2025 meeting.
The 2025 Officer recommendations are as follows:

· Secretary – Beth Parham
· Treasurer – Richard Grant
· Director – Ronnie Smith 2027
· 2025 Show Cahir – Alvin Woody
Meetings are open to the public and to anyone interested in wood carving. Youth’s (under 18) must be accompted by an adult, minimum age is 14. The meeting will follow COVID protocols, and members and guests are encouraged to wear masks.
Members are invited to bring any woodcarving tool that they don’t currently use, and donate them to the,” Visitor Loaner Took Kit”. A project that will loan a carving knife to a meeting visitor.
Members are encouraged to bring in your finished carvings for Show-n-Tell.
The club consists of about 40 Hickory-area woodcarvers of all skill levels, from hobbyist to professionals. The club meets on the Third Saturday of each month at the Klingspor's Woodworking Shop.
