I applaud your support for these concerned Iron Station citizens and from a fellow alum, I will proudly state GO PACK!!!! One thing that always bothers me about development is this county's and the the city of Lincolnton's shared lack of infrastructure planning. It usually exhibits a state of certified idiots running the show. Another somewhat hidden concern is the loss of farmland. I read recently that the Charlotte area (about nine counties) had lost 790 family farms in a recent six year period. This is a major alarm to me. All this development may be great for greedy developers and municipal officials looking for votes and tax dollars but WE ALL HAVE TO EAT and lots of us prefer to buy local and support homegrown farming. It's a problem when younger folks decide to sell big blocks of inherited property due to high taxes but the influx of outsiders moving in is exactly what's causing taxes to go up. That's after the city/county realizes they have put the horse before the cart and have to do some emergency spending to handle the population increase and lack of services. It's coming around here and this county and city are slow to react as shown in the current state of antique traffic intersections and misguided spending for government facilities. This county and city needs to lose their greedy streak and start listening to who lives here and forget about these slick developers offering deals behind closed doors.
Barney and I usually don't agree, but I'm with you here. On one hand, growth in Lincolnton/Lincoln County is inevitable. And of course, with that comes the good and bad, depending on how it's handled. You're specifically spot on about the infrastructure. For example: Is anything changing with the roads/traffic flow where Target and Walmart are going to coexist? Honestly, I thought roads would have been widened and lanes added well before construction started on the site. Traffic already backs up at the N Generals and East Main. Why has that not been addressed? It's going to be a mess.
Lenny, you and I have our differences but you certainly have a right to your opinion. I wondered the same thought when I found out the construction site was a Target. Kinda stupid in my book. Lincoln county and Lincolnton don't fund the roads but there is somebody somewhere that draws a paycheck in local government that has a function to study the traffic patterns and what can be done to improve flows. Whoever is doing that is a miserable failure. We live away from town and I've observed how screwed up traffic is at the only two incoming roads that connect with the Startown road area. They are major bottlenecks and I'd guess that's the area where most of the development is happening presently. Simply putting in turn lanes, either right or left will greatly ease the congestion at both areas. Looks to me like somebody could figure that out that maybe is getting paid by the county/city to do that job. Unfortunately, these two governments never plan in advance which is something that sticks out to me after living here for 25 plus years. Sad but glaringly true.
Thank you sir for sharing your thoughts. Yes, I definitely agree - No Farms = No Food. Have a great day! Eric
Oh meant for that comment to be for Mr. Petree. Mr. Cooper, yes great point about that Target/Walmart situation. Have a great day sir(s). Eric
And yes sir - GO WOLFPACK !! I understand their football team is looking good for this upcoming season - fingers crossed. E
Well, the QB is a known talent but blending the portal transfers is always a guess. My family and I are hoping a former player named Rivers will come next year to coach his son and send the present coach into a well deserved retirement.
I like how that plan sounds. Yes. :)
Deepest sympathy to Officer Price and all who knew and loved this outstanding canine officer. Thank you Officer Conner for your service. I am very tender hearted, and hearing of losing a beloved best friend always makes me cry.
I commend you and your comments urging civility for this racism issue in the WBNA. I call it racism because I believe that's exactly what it has evolved into. Unfortunately, there are "outside influencers" and paid activists for promotion of this just as they continuously promote disruption to peace, law and order within our great Nation simply because they hate the way we have lived in freedom for 250 years. Sports is just another avenue for them to operate along with politics, finance, homeland security and the social needs of our country. It is a tall task to take on and the optimism we all hope will prevail is, I think, falling by the roadside.
Thank you sir for reading the article and for your comments. Enjoy your day! :)
Lisa I really love your articles! Thank you and keep them coming.Cindy
And this is why I favor a self-driving car environment - to prevent accidents when drivers are distracted or impaired. I'm most disturbed in that this was not late at night, but occurred during the middle of a weekday. So sad and senseless. My condolences to the Mosteller family. Let's all drive safely and at that speed limit.
