Christian Ministry Needs Volunteers Saturday

Williams: Help needed in soup kitchen

LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry of Lincoln County urgently needs help this Saturday, Nov. 2.

According to executive director Mitzi Williams, four to six people are needed to run the soup kitchen. As Williams informed Thursday, this group of volunteers will be responsible for opening up, cooking, serving, cleaning up and closing up the kitchen.

If you have questions or have a group that can volunteer, call Williams at (704) 732-0383 or e-mail her at christianministry2017@gmail.com.

In other news, also Saturday, McKendree Methodist Church will hold a barbecue fundraiser, 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Most of the proceeds will benefit the Hurricane Helene Relief Fund in western North Carolina. Eat-in, take-out and drive-through options will be available at the church, located at 3357 Maiden Hwy., just outside of Lincolnton. Each plate will feature pulled-pork barbecue, coleslaw, baked beans and a dessert. Plates are $10 each, and both cash and checks will be accepted.

And elsewhere, the ministry is collecting used toys for its annual used-toy giveaway. Donors may drop off toys at the ministry office, located at 207 S. Poplar St. in downtown Lincolnton, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

Relatedly, the angel tree toy drive is ongoing, and angels are ready to be picked up, as Williams noted.

“Get some for your family, your friends, your church or your business,” she added.

She encouraged those interested to call Mimi Rhyne at (704) 732-0383 to get yours, or stop by the office, 9 a.m.-1 p.m., to pick them up.

Want to contribute to the ministry’s annual Christmas campaign? Williams said you may donate money, toys and/or food.

“You can donate your time, helping us sort food,” she said. “The two weeks after Thanksgiving are the best weeks to help sort.”

She continued that it’s even possible to have your group scheduled for the weekends or on a weeknight. Call Williams at (704) 732-0383 to schedule your volunteers.

With the help of its member churches, local businesses, social groups and individual supporters, Christian Ministry seeks to meet the needs of those who are less fortunate through its emergency services, soup kitchen, annual Christmas campaign, nursing home program and, for local elderly and shut-in residents, the delivery of LINC Home Meals.
