Christian Ministry Says “Thank You!”

Williams: also preparing now for Christmas

LINCOLNTON––Christian Ministry is thanking Lincolnton-based food store Proper Provisions.

That’s the recent word from the ministry’s executive director, Mitzi Williams.

“A big thank you to Proper Provisions for their recent donation to our soup kitchen,” said Williams. “We appreciate your kindness in thinking of us and providing our soup kitchen with some delicious shrimp and grits.”

Talking of food, she cited the soup kitchen’s wish list. It includes butter, ketchup, parchment paper and brown sugar. Also, the most-needed items for the pantry are crackers, peanut butter, breakfast foods, detergent, bar soap and pop-top canned foods. Plus, plastic grocery bags are needed, as Williams revealed.

Also appreciated were the fine folks at Reep’s Grove United Methodist Church.

“A very special ‘thank you’ goes to them,” Williams informed. “They provide regular volunteers for our soup kitchen. For the last several months, they have been providing paper plates for the soup kitchen, and that helps cut the cost of having to purchase them. Thank you!”

In other news, she wished a happy 100th birthday to Marie Cain. This big occasion was celebrated earlier this month. Cain is among the recipients of the LINC Home-Delivered Meals program.

“The drivers and co-ordinator for the Emmanuel Lutheran route for LINC Meals honored the occasion with a birthday party for Marie,” as Williams informed.

Preparing now for Thanksgiving and Christmas

And elsewhere, Williams noted how the ministry is preparing right now for upcoming holidays.

“Can you believe it?” she rhetorically asked, citing the amazing passage of time. “We are getting ready here at the ministry. The soup kitchen is stocking up on stuffing. If you can help us by donating a box or two of stuffing, please drop those by any time. They could also use some canned green beans and corn.”

Can you or your volunteer group help sort food for Christmas? Williams said the two weeks after Thanksgiving are the best weeks to help. Call her now to learn more: (704) 732-0383.

Other ways you can help at Christmas are by donating toys, food and financial assistance. Stay tuned for more information in the coming weeks for all of these opportunities and more.

The ministry’s annual give-out of used toys will be on Saturday, Dec. 7.

“We are taking used toys for our used-toy give out,” said Williams. “You may drop those off any day between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.”

And she noted that clothing donations would be taken until Nov. 22.

“After Nov. 22,” she added, “we cannot take any clothing donations until after Jan. 1. This is due to our Christmas give-out. Thank you for your understanding and help with this.”

With the help of its member churches, local businesses, social groups and individual supporters, Christian Ministry seeks to meet the needs of those who are less fortunate through its emergency services, soup kitchen, annual Christmas campaign, nursing home program and, for local elderly and shut-in residents, the delivery of LINC Home Meals.
