CLAREMONT––A Catawba man is dead, following a fatal collision that occurred Sunday.
According to North Carolina State Highway Patrol Master Trooper Christopher Casey, NCSHP personnel responded at about 4:20 a.m. that morning to investigate the incident. The scene was in Catawba County on Shiloh Road near Buffalo Shoals Road.
“A 2010 Nissan ‘Titan’ was travelling south on Shiloh, when the driver lost control, crossed the center line, drove off the left side of the road and struck a tree,” Casey states in a same-day release.
He adds that the driver, Jairo Ismael Flores, 31, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
“The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing circumstance in the collision,” Casey continues. “During the on-scene investigation, Shiloh Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours.”
