Fatal Crash Wednesday In Alexander County

Vanessa Shea Lail, 39, of Granite Falls, is dead

TAYLORSVILLE––A Granite Falls woman is dead, following a collision in Alexander County, Wednesday morning.

According to Master Trooper Christopher Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol in a Wednesday afternoon statement, at about 12:30 a.m., NCSHP personnel responded to and investigated the fatal crash incident on Icard Ridge Road near Bethlehem School Road.

“A 1996 Chevrolet ‘Monte Carlo’ was travelling north on Icard Ridge Road, when the driver lost control, crossed the center line, drove off the left side of the road, struck a ditch and overturned,” Casey states.

He adds that the driver, Vanessa Shea Lail, 39, was transported by EMS to Frye Regional Medical Center in Hickory. There, she succumbed to her injuries.

“The initial investigation indicates excessive speed to be the contributing circumstance in the collision,” Casey concludes. “During the on-scene investigation, Icard Ridge Road was closed in the area for approximately two hours.”
