HICKORY, N.C. - Ferne Mazelle Fulbright Baker, 89, of Hickory, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at her residence.

She was born May 13, 1935 in Catawba County to the late George Washington Fulbright and Laura Alice Huffman Fulbright. Ferne was a lifelong member of Sardis Lutheran Church in Hickory and retired from Hickory Springs Manufacturing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Olin Baker; son, Marvin Earl Baker; brothers, Dick, Alvin, Millard, Marshall, GW, Harold, and Eugene; sisters, Evelyn, Mary, and JoAnne; and granddaughter, Alexandria Janzelle Baker Pierce.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters Alice LouAnn B. Sipe of Statesville, Anita Dianne Baker of Durham, Tammy Marie B. Richardson of Hickory; grandchildren Laura Sipe Karriker, Nicholas Sipe (Nikki), Katie Baker Cobb (Brent), Sidney Richardson, and Naomi Baker Hodges; great-grandchildren Logan Adams, Micah Spearman, Damon Spearman, Hunter Sipe, Jacob Sipe, Colton Sipe, Jace Cobb, and Reese Cobb.

A service to celebrate Ferne’s life will be held on Friday, September 13, 2024 at 4 p.m. at Sardis Lutheran Church in Hickory. Pastor Matthew Oscar Shepherd will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 3-3:45 p.m. at Sardis Lutheran Church.
