Margaret Sue Hoyle Miller 

Sunrise, on a Fall day in October — Sunset, January 25, 2026.   

Her funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 1, 2025, at Mount Vernon Baptist Church, in Vale, with Rev. Jeremy Mahaffey officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until 2:45 p.m. prior to the service.

Sue was born in Catawba County to the late Pliny Omar Hoyle and Susie Marie Leatherman Hoyle.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Edgar Houck; second husband, Joe Carroll Miller, Sr. whom she was married to for 51-1/2 years; and brothers, John Hal Hoyle (Vergie Mae), and Gary Lee Hoyle.

During her school-aged years, Sue attended Union High School and was Captain of the basketball team, a member of the Beta and Honor Club, pitcher for the softball team, and won All-County for the Debate Team. 

Following business school, she was employed for 42 years as the Manager of Payroll and Healthcare.  Sue was a lifetime member of Mount Vernon Baptist Church in Vale where she held various positions, including Sunday School Teacher and worked in the church office. 

She is survived by her children, Ann Marie Miller Reed (Dan), Joe Carroll Miller, Jr., and Eric Hoyle Miller (Angie); grandchildren, Joseph “Joey” Daniel Reed (Dana), Juliana Sue Reed, Wesley “Wes” Curtis Owens (Shelyce), Emily Carol Miller, Erica Miller Tallent (John Dock), and Carroll Jacob “CJ” Miller; sister, Shirley Fay Downs; and great-granddaughter, Willa Ann Tallent.

Warlick Funeral Home of Lincolnton, N.C. is serving the Miller family.
