Murder Suspect Killed After Trying To Strike Officers
Pierre Demond Ramseur dead after attempt to hit cops with car
NEWTON––A suspect is dead after attempting to strike Catawba County Sheriff’s Office deputies with his car.
Pierre Demond Ramseur, 33, of Hickory, was shot and killed Monday around 6 p.m., when members of the County’s Special Tactics and Response (or STAR) Team attempted to apprehend him, according to Catawba County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Maj. Aaron Turk. In a same-day statement, Turk explains that Ramseur was wanted on several felony and misdemeanor crimes committed in Catawba County.
“During that attempt,” Turk states, “this suspect refused to comply with instructions to exit his vehicle. The suspect then struck several law-enforcement vehicles and a private vehicle in an effort to escape apprehension. This suspect was then shot and killed by STAR members as he approached other members of law enforcement with his vehicle.”
This incident occurred in a parking lot at Élite Comfort Solutions, which is located at 1115 Farrington St. SW in Conover.
Ramseur was wanted for second-degree kidnapping, common-law robbery, felony larceny, misdemeanor larceny, communicating threats and injury to personal property, and he had an outstanding domestic-violence protective order that deputies were attempting to serve, as Turk informs.
“This suspect was also out on bond after being charged with murder in an unrelated incident,” he adds. “The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (NCSBI) has initiated an investigation. The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office and other involved law enforcement agencies are co-operating fully with this investigation.”
Ramseur’s next of kin have been notified.
