Sheriff’s Deputies Assist With Helene Recovery

Assisted the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office for seven days

LINCOLNTON, N.C. - Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Lt Pippen was assigned to Command and direct Lincoln  County personnel and resources and assisted the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office with Incident Command and resource allocation.

On Monday September 30, 2024, Lincoln County deputies arrived in Mitchell County and were tasked with door-to-door welfare checks on people that had not been seen or heard from. Two Deputies were tasked with answering calls for service in Spruce Pine.

On Tuesday, October 1, 2024 they were tasked with door-to-door welfare checks of people that had not been seen or heard from. Twp Deputies were tasked with answering calls for service in Spruce Pine. Two drone teams arrived from Lincoln County.

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024 they were attached to Oklahoma Task Force Team Urban Search and Rescue Team 1. They were conducting river searches on and off the river and our deputies provided security to the team. The LCSO drone team flew reconnaissance of the river for TFT1.

On Thursday, October 3, 2024 they were attached to Oklahoma Task Force Team Urban Search and Rescue Team 1. They were conducting river searched on and off the river and our Deputies provided security to the team. The drone team flew recon of the river for TFT1.

On Friday, October 4, 2024 - same as previous two days, but located a missing deceased male and assisted  with the extrication of the body from the gorge.

 

On Saturday, October 4, 12024 the LCSO were tasked with door-to-door welfare checks of people that  had not been seen or heard from. Our deputies made contact with 147 residents and verified their status and provided any assistance that was needed. The drone team again flew recon of the river for Oklahoma Task Force Team 1.

On Sunday, October 6, 2024 they were tasked with door-to-door welfare checks of people that had not  been seen or heard from. Our deputies made contact with 49 residents and verified their  status and provided any assistance that was needed. The drone team again flew recon of  the river for Oklahoma Task Force Team 1.
