I voted on the first day of Early Voting (Thursday February 13th).  Early Voting will continue through February 29th.  Absentee voting (which in truth is now just voting by mail since you don't have to provide a viable reason why you must vote absentee) began in January.  Primary Election Day is March 3rd.

If you aren't already registered, you can register and vote at the same time during Early Voting.  On Primary Election Day, the polls will be open from 6:30 AM until 7:30 PM.  On that day, you have to vote in the precinct where you live, but during Early Voting, you can vote at any of the Early Voting locations in your county.

There are primary races in Lincoln County involving three seats on the County Commission and for one of the two District 27B judgeships.  Both of those are on the Republican ballot.  Lincoln County Democrats can vote for their choice for their party's nominee for President, Governor, Lt. Governor and other statewide races, plus who will be their candidate for Congress and their nominee for another District 27B judgeship.  While Democrats and Republicans can vote only in their party's primary, unaffiliated voters can choose to vote in either (but only one).

The East Lincoln Betterment Association held a Candidates Forum February 4th.  They posted audio of the event on YouTube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAexNa8a7iI&feature=youtu.be.

They provided an opportunity for some candidates who did not have a primary election opponent to speak.  When the Lincoln Herald holds its Candidates Forum at the Lincoln Cultural Center (403 E. Main St. in Lincolnton) on Tuesday February 25th--one week before Primary Election Day--we'll only include those candidates who have opposition in the primary.

We will be posting articles about each of the GOP candidates for Lincoln County Commissioner (there are eight; three seats are up for election).  We'd like to know who you believe should be elected--and why.  You can express your opinion on any of the races in the Primary Election.  Democrats may want to tell us their choice for President, US Senate, Lt. Governor, Supt. of Public Instruction, etc.  Republicans may want to voice their choice for statewide races as well as local races--like County Commissioner.

Catawba, Gaston & Cleveland counties also have local elections for Commissioner, etc. in the primary.  Residents of those counties are also invited to tell us their opinion.  You can comment in the comments on this article on Facebook or use the Article Comment Submission Form that follows this article.

For anyone who is not already familiar with all the candidates, sample ballots are available online for each county.  There are, of course, other parties beside Democrats & Republicans, and we welcome the opinions of unaffiliated voters, Libertarians, and members of the Green & Constitution parties.

So tell us what you think--voice your choice!
