LINCOLNTON, N.C. – Atrium Health is proud to partner with Lincoln County Schools to deliver free healthy meals to children in Lincoln County as part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program.
The Atrium Health Summer Food Bus will deliver meals to neighborhoods Monday through Friday (June 1 – August 3) to all kids and teens ages 18 and younger.
Children and teens will come to the bus and a Lincoln County Schools nutrition team member will provide each child a nutritious lunch for the day and breakfast for the next morning. On Friday's, each child will also receive meals for the weekend.
Atrium Health led a Community Health Impact Study in 2017 which yielded food insecurity as one of the critical needs to address in the Lincoln County community. In partnership with Lincoln County Schools and the Atrium Health Foundation, Atrium Health Lincoln purchased and remodeled a school bus per guidelines of the USDA to provide meals to children in Lincoln County during the summer months when school is no longer in session. The selected stops for to-go meal deliveries are based on most in need in those areas identified in the Community Health Improvement Study.
